Daisy's Surgery

Daisy had her spay surgery finally on Saturday. She went to a new vet and I was very pleased with the office so I'm going to plug them: http://roadrunneranimalhospital.com/ She got really good care and everyone in the office was super friendly.

Here's the advice I got:

Keep the E-collar on for a week, so I shelled out $12 for an e-collar, they put it on her before we left, it was off by the time we reached the car. She wiggled out of it even in a drunken state. We get home I try to put it on tighter, she gets it off within 2/4 of a second. Again... and again, no way is that thing staying on unless I get some super glue. So I give up.

Keep her isolated so she will rest, give her ice chips if she doesn't drink anything at first, then offer small amounts of water....

She comes into my bedroom where I plan on nursing her back to health, finds the bowl of water and literally drinks for about 15 minutes. Ok, so that isn't good.

She may be sleepy for the first day or two: Nope, that evening she's jumping up on my bed, playing with my feet. She's running, jumping everything she's not supposed to do. She's licking her incision. I give her pain meds (they are supposed to make her sleepy), nope they make her more hyper. It's like she's a kitty on steriods. She's super spaz.

So I give up and hope for the best. She's about 3 days past surgery. She is jumping up on stuff, licking her wound, running up and down the stairs like a crazy spaz. She is acting like she wasn't just cut open.

So far she seems ok, but did have a little fever last night, but it's gone today. Her incision looked red and weepy last night, but looks good today, clean and pink and not swollen. So hopefully she'll heal ok. It's pretty much impossible to keep her down unless I get some horse tranquilizers.

Fur Babies: Past and Present

Since my pets are such a big part of my life, here's an introduction:

Iris: Our elderly cat, sort of neurotic, always wants to be near me, follows me whereever I go, lays at my feet or by my side, always there. She's a snowshoe Siamese, she was acquired from the Humane Society back in 1992, she was already 1.5 years old back then so she's about 18 or older. She was on Pets on Parade. Her original name was Menang, which was really stupid so we changed it.

Daisy day one, she was filthy dirty so I gave her a bath. Before and after shots. She has made herself right at home. But she's still in heat and I'm waiting very impatiently for a spay voucher to arrive from the county so I can get her spayed for free. She is driving everyone nuts!

Elbee - She was a gift for my 10 year old's ninth birthday. I was really anti-rodent before, but now I think she's super sweet and cute and I hold her all the time. This will be our last hamster though as I am doing most of the work!

Rest in Peace:

Lily 7/04/91 - 9/2007 - You are greatly missed. The best friend anyone could ever have. She was my favorite of all cats, she was Tonkinese or at least part Tonk, she was super smart, played tag with us, gave lots of head butts, tried to open the door by the handle. She was super intelligent.

Midori - 1992 - 2006 - Part black lab. She was a sweetheart. Look at that smile!

Your Home is My Jungle

I'm a glutton for punishment. I am a bonifide animal lover. I can't resist them. I notice every stray that comes into my sight and wonder if I should pick it up and give it a home. So when Daisy came to me one day about a month or two ago. I picked her up and made the decision to bring her home. She chose me afterall.

I loved her from day one. But it had been about 20 years since I've had a kitten. I had forgotten how much energy and trouble they can get into! My daughter caught this picture the other day. The plastic bags were put down to give her something to do. She went nuts with them.
